Free tacos? Those two words are music to millions of taco fans’ ears all across America, and thanks to Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts, everyone can scoop up a free taco at your local Taco Bell restaurant when the 2018 World Series is complete – and here’s why.
According to a Boston.com report, Taco Bell’s World Series “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” promotion is pretty self-explanatory. If a player successfully steals a base during any game of the 2018 best-of-seven World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, everyone in the United States is entitled to a free taco.
Betts, who obviously knew about this year’s promotion, wasted no time in helping every taco lover cash in. The Red Sox outfielder led off the bottom of the first inning with a single off Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw and on the first pitch to Boston’s number two hitter Andrew Benintendi, Betts took off for second base and slid in safely, successfully stealing the base and unlocking the free tacos promotion for everyone.
Taco Bell has become one of the biggest fast food restaurant chains in the United States and they sure know how to promote themselves. In fact, Betts himself mentioned in a postgame press conference that as soon as he reached first base, tacos suddenly crossed his mind.
Betts said he had tacos dancing around in his brain when he was on first base and he wanted to be the one to unlock the “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” promotion for all.
Betts told reporters he “wanted to stay aggressive and score a run, and on top of that, I just want some tacos.”
Mookie has instantly turned into a sports hero for kids and adults alike who love heading to Taco Bell. Patrons can pick up their free Doritos Locos Taco on November 1 from 2-6 p.m. local time.
