Pastor Andy Stanley is the founder and senior pastor of North Point Ministries, which has grown into a world-renown megachurch. Andy has authored a number of books and broadcasts on television and the radio. Andy has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Georgia State University and a master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Andy Stanley formerly worked as the Associate Pastor and Minister to Students at First Baptist Church of Atlanta, a church that was led by his televangelist father, Charles Stanley. Andy would preach when his father was traveling and was featured on his father’s broadcast, In Touch. Due to Andy’s popularity, he was appointed pastor of First Baptist’s first satellite church on Easter Sunday 1992. Andy’s preaching was so well received that within two months, the church had 2,000 members.

It wasn’t long after Andy Stanley began preaching that he realized he and his father had different ideas of church and preaching. Rev. Bill Hybels from Willow Creek Community Church became Andy’s mentor and as he learned how Rev. Hybel’s church focused on reaching “irreligious” people who were turned off by traditional church, the idea of leading this type of church resonated within him. As Andy Stanley changed his preaching style to incorporate his new beliefs, his satellite church continued to grow. Surprisingly to many, including his father, the conflict caused by their differing beliefs eventually led Andy to resign from his position at First Baptist.

Andy Stanley and five others founded North Point Community Church in 1995 near Atlanta, Georgia. With Andy’s resignation from First Baptist, he also left the Southern Baptist denomination, so his new church was founded as a non-denominational Christian church. In the years since, it has become one of the country’s largest churches with six campuses and over 30,000 members. His ministry, North Point Ministries, has partnered with more than 90 churches throughout the country and has an international division with partner churches, too. North Point Ministries is active in sending hundreds of missionaries around the world each year. Andy’s international reach is expanded by his website, which has millions of people listening to messages, videos, and podcasts each month.

Andy Stanley was identified as one of the ten most influential living pastors in the United States according to a survey of U.S. pastors in Outreach Magazine. Andy messages are practical to life and relevant to today’s culture, creating an appeal of many people in society, even those who are not typically categorized as “churched.” In addition to preaching, he also focuses on leadership development, having written several books and speaking at a number of leadership events.

Andy lives with his wife, Sandra, to whom he has been married since 1988, in Milton, Georgia. They have three children.
