The film “Wonder Woman” became one of the biggest hits in the history of movies when it was released back in 2017. It made more than $400 million in the United States and more than $800 million at the worldwide box office. It ranks as the 22nd most successful movie in the United States. Needless to say, Warner Bros quickly gave the green light to a sequel. The movie has already been filming for a long time. It was set to be released in Nov. of 2019. However, those plans have now changed. The movie, titled Wonder Woman 1984,” will now have an official release date of June 5th, 2020.

The move was made by Warner Bros. because the first movie was so successful when it came out in the summer. Therefore, the studio is hoping that lightning will strike twice. They want the Wonder Woman sequel to be a summer tent pole that will be one of the key movies they release in 2020. The original movie is now the highest grossing movie to have a female director. It was also the first of the DC films in many years to gain a lot of critical praise. The earlier Superman and Batman movies did less than expected at the box office. This was due in large part to negative reviews from critics and fans alike.

Warner Bros. is going to be relying heavily on the Wonder Woman franchise to pick up the slack of the other DC Comics superhero movies that have not made as much money as the studio was expecting. The Justice League movie was panned by just about everyone who saw it. It is considered a colossal failure and wasted a chance to make a great movie with many iconic superheroes in the same film. In many ways, Warner Bros. has succeeded in ruining the Superman and Batman franchises by putting out movies that were heavy on special effects and light on story of substance.

“Wonder Woman 1984” will take place in the year 1984. Chris Pine will reprise his role as Steve Trevor. The new addition to the cast is Kristen Wiig. She is best known for her very long stint as a cast member of “Saturday Night Live.” She will play the Cheetah, Wonder Woman’s most important enemy in the comic books. This will be an interesting role for her because she is mainly known for comedy.
