The sad passing of comic book legend Stan Lee sent shockwaves through fandom. Lee was easily the most influential creator in comic book history. Without Lee’s brilliant creations in the 1960’s, pop culture would be a different — and less interesting — place. Lee created scores of amazing and memorable superheroes for Marvel. Today, those characters live on in live-action films reaching a new generation of fans. Lee remained a familiar face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He received cameo appearances in every project. Reportedly, Stan Lee will continue to appear in a few future films as several cameos were already filmed.
Confirmation exists that Stan Lee appears in the upcoming Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 films. Whether he appears in Spider-Man: Far from Home is uncertain. Lee indeed would have received a cameo in the new Spider-Man film. Whether he filmed one for the feature prior to his passing isn’t known.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe point out the tragic irony of Lee’s final cameo being Avengers 4. The fourth film in the ensemble franchise intends to close out the original MCU and launch a new one. Many of the original stars and heroes of the original franchises won’t continue in their roles. The film also becomes Stan Lee’s last appearance.
Will Lee continue to receive producer credits on any future Marvel Studios productions? Lee received executive producer credit on scores of Marvel Comics features due to the characters being his original creations. The Stan Lee estate could continue to claim producer credits on upcoming movies.
Younger fans might recognize Lee from his brief appearances in MCU films. Unless they grew up in the 1970s through the 1980s, they would never understand how iconic Stan Lee was to legions of fans. Hopefully, Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios won’t let Lee be forgotten. The entities could honor him in many other ways.
