The midterm elections will be here soon. However, most Millennials do not even know who is running for the various offices. NBCNews/GenForward/Millennials surveyed 1,881 people who are between the ages of 18 and 34. Fifty-nine percent of people stated that were not familiar with people who were running in the midterm elections.
Fifty-seven percent of people surveyed stated that they will be voting in the upcoming election. Forty-nine percent of the Millennials stated that they were going to vote for a democratic candidate. Twenty-nine percent of them stated that they were going to vote for a republican candidate. Twenty-one percent of people stated that they did not know who they were going to vote for.
Millennials were also asked about what they were looking for in a candidate. Thirty-one percent of them said that they were looking for someone who would bring change. Twenty-five percent of Millennials stated that they were going to vote for someone who shared their values.
Most Millennials do not have a favorable opinion of Donald Trump. Fifty-nine percent of Millennials disapprove of Donald Trump. Fifty-four percent of them also disapprove of the House and Senate. Sixty-three percent of Millennials believe that the current government does not represent their interests.
Democrats are leading the republicans by 50.4 percent to 41.9 percent. It is likely that the democrats will take control of the House. However, it will be a lot harder for them to take control of the Senate.
Additionally, younger voters are voting in much lower numbers than other generations. Young voters made up 53 percent of the eligible voters. However, only 36 million of them voted in the 2014 midterm election. Fifty-seven million older people voted in the 2014 midterm election.
Many people do not vote in the midterm elections because they do not feel that these elections are not important.
