Homeless people in Fort Worth, Texas now have an easy way to make money. They are being paid to pick up trash off of the street. They will be able to make $10 per hour. Fort Worth is one of several cities that have a program that help homeless people make money.

Toby Owen is the CEO of the Presbyterian Night Shelter. The shelter has a clean slate program. This program receives city funding in order to keep the streets clean. The funds are also used to provide custodial jobs for different businesses.

Toby believes that this is a win-win situation for everyone. Homeless people are able to make money. People also get to enjoy clean streets. Toby stated that the goal is to help people get off the streets and move into their own place.

Los Angeles is another one of the cities that has a program like this. In November 2017, they started a program that paid people to clean up the streets. Los Angeles has one of the highest homeless populations in the country. There are over 50,000 homeless people in this city.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development stated that homelessness increased in 2017. This was the first time that homeless population had increased since the recession in 2010. In January 2018, Ben Carson stated that the Department of Housing and Urban Development will donate $2 billion to programs that end homelessness. The grants will be donated to 7,000 homeless programs.

Nan Roman is the CEO and president of the Alliance to End Homelessness. He stated that the organization is giving out more money than it did last year. However, he stated that the cost of living has gone up, so they have to increase the amount that they give in order to break even.
